This Colbert clip that’s been going around my dash all the time reminds me of a thought I often think.
I don’t understand why President Obama is not the poster child for Republican “values”. He’s the embodiment of the Horatio Alger Bootstraps American Dream, pulled himself up out of a rocky childhood through education and hard work. He was raised with close ties to his extended family and has a shiny, happy nuclear family with a loving marriage, two kids, and a dog. He has volunteered and worked with churches to help revitalize the communities where he’s lived. I mean, he’s fucking everything they want; they’d salivate over a candidate with his image. I get why Republicans disagree with his policies, but I just don’t understand why they seem to revile him as if he’s a horrible person.

Colbert speaks sheer truth.  Or should I say truthiness?  But the bottom line is he’s still a Black dude who used bootstraps, not a white one.  That’s the big difference.  Granted, Clinton didn’t exactly get into Georgetown because of some silver spoon upbringing so…hmm.  I think the whole bootstrap thing is something the GOP wanks about when they talk, but they’re terrified of people who use said bootstraps in reality.
